My love for independent electronic music turned into the idea of #SupernovaRadioShow a few years ago. I wanted to create a radio show that would be more accessible to the independent artists than BBC Introducing, a show in which every submission would be looked over throughly and responded to. Where independent artists would be promoted over the radio and social media alongside, introduced to the world, talked about. Where the network of the artists and producers would exist that would be more personal.
I was lucky enough not only to host, but also to produce the show for GlitterBeam Radio, which started back in 2020. The new, fresh radio station that was diverse, different and open to amazing, and maybe sometimes daring ideas. Most of the stations do not want to dip into the margin of the unknown, independent artist. But GlitterBeam thought this could be big. And it was. I was petrified at the beginning. Producing and hosting at the same time was a big commitment and effort.
The show exploded, gaining international following. Creating an international network of artists, producers, composers, DJs and fans, all in one place, all in easy reach of each other. More than a thousand independent artists graced the show with their incredible music. Producers, musicians and listeners who would tune in every Sunday to check out my selection of fresh tracks. People who made this their weekly dose of amazing discoveries. Musician who gained new fans. Artist who became signed to labels, bedroom producers who went to do live shows and all this because we all shared one love - love of good music.
I will be forever grateful for all the connections I have made, for all the artists who has submitted their tracks and allowed me to play their amazing music on the international radio, to all my colleagues at the station. I had a blast.
The inevitable has come… in the way of a true Supernova, I had made a very hard and painful decision of suspending the show indefinitely.
There are many reasons why, but this in no way means that I stopped loving the show or the music, the artists or the process.
This is a goodbye… but hopefully not forever.
With Love,
Lucas Gil
